It Could Have Been You! 1.

And he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” So they answered, “As you are, so were they; each one resembled the son of a king. Then he said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the Lord lives, if you had let them live, I would not kill you. And he said to Jether his firstborn, “Rise, kill them!” But the youth would not draw his sword; for he was afraid, because he was still a youth. So Zebah and Zalmunna said, “Rise yourself, and kill us; for as a man is, so is his strength.” So Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescent ornaments that were on their camels’ necks.

Judges 8:18-21. NKJV.

It is always a wonder to have survived situations which swept others away notwithstanding the fact that they are also covenant children! This calls for sober reflection, not because you are better in all ramifications, unpleasant situation many people have witnessed is part of the offshoot of the ravaging effects of sin. Then, being a survivor should elicit thanksgiving and a grateful heart.
One of the foremost reasons God ask us to give thanks this season is because of preservation and protection our households, family and Church have enjoyed.
Israel during the time of Gideon experienced an unbelievable oppression for a period of seven years, that was the time when the best of men does their business in hiding for fear, the Bible gives us the sad details; Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years,….. Then they would encamp against them and destroy the produce of the earth as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep nor ox nor donkey. Judges 6:1, 4. Sin is to be feared more than the host of devils combined together, for it incapacitated the hands of Jehovah to fight for His children, it gives the enemies of our soul an inroad without hedges of protection, and makes a man dull to spiritual errors and the corresponding evils!
