True Independence.

“As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

John 8:30-34.”

A man is not truly independent if his life is still characterized by the works of the flesh! Pointedly pointed is the fact that religion, education, self efforts, appearing pious or religious, does not empower a man to live above the dictates of sinful flesh, but it is only by the power bestowed by the Saviour, Jesus Christ, that can make a man truly independent!
For example, despite the hundreds of laws Nigeria has, Federal, States and local Government, men and women, with bogus spiritual tittles are perpetrating heinous crimes; abetting criminals, steal public funds, they fund genocide, they do drugs, etc., they thus reject the laws they swear to keep as oath of office, they are slaves to sin.
When the Lord Jesus told the Jews that abiding in Him and the truths He will teach will made them free indeed, they retorted that they are covenant children through Abraham, but the Lord said anyone who practices sin is a servant of sin, such is not independent, but under spiritual slavery.
The truth is that the world is not structured to preserve sanity, only faith in Jesus name, will make men truly independent from sin and it’s ravaging effects.
Reflection: true independence is allowing Jesus to rule your life and affairs though the written words.
