It Could Have Been You! 2

“Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years,….. Then they would encamp against them and destroy the produce of the earth as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep nor ox nor donkey.

Judges 6:1, 4.”

The Median enemy destroyed three things that are crucial to National and Individual development of the people as a result of their wanton disregard of God’s laws;
~ they destroyed their means of livelihood, the produce of the farm and sheep. They left them without sustenance.
~ they likewise destroyed their Ox. Oxen are used in those days as tractors to drive their farming tools and cultivate the farmland. So, Midian destroyed their means of production, and left them grounded.
~ in addition, they also destroyed their mobility. Donkey is used in those days as a means of light transportation, just as we use cars, buses and other vehicles today.
The Nation’s dilemma is an offshoot of their deliberate sins and rebellion against God, when they broke the hedge, they gave the enemy of their souls an in-road. This is why Jeremiah lamented in his days when the people experienced similar oppression again and again; “The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance has turned into mourning. The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned! Because of this our heart is faint; because of these things our eyes grow dim. Lamentation 5:15-17.” No matter the challenges of life never allow distress to cause you to sin or the blessings you’re swimming in to cause you to slip into spiritual slumber.
Sin could be in different label for different people, it could be prayerlessness for Jide, it could be disobedience for Toyin, yet it could be slumber for Tunji, meanwhile, it could be pride for Yetunde, whatever it is, get rid of it. Samuel said if he failed to pray for his pastorate, it is a sin to him; “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. 1Samuel 12:23.”
